Kasane Teto - 1/7 - Yoshiwara Lament Ver. (Good Smile Company)Kasane Teto - 1/7 - Yoshiwara Lament Ver. (Good Smile Company)Review

Hey there fellow mfc-members!
I don’t usually do these disclaimers anymore, but even by my standards this review is extremely picture-heavy.
( ̄▽ ̄)ゞ

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Today I’ll be taking a look at ITEM #617147 a figure of Kasane Teto wearing a courtesan outfit made by Good Smile Company. The figure is based on the song “Yoshiwara Lament”. While I did look up the song beforehand, I don’t know much about Teto and seeing how the music is definitely not my cup of tea (love the lyrics though) I can’t exactly say I care all that much about her. However, I’m quite weak when it comes to beautiful kimonos and seeing how stunning the prototype looked this was a day one preorder for me. Well then, without further ado let’s get to the review. ٩(^ᴗ^)۶

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Teto comes in a huge, heavy cardboard box. The material is pretty sturdy as expected for a box of that size. Both the top and front have big windows framed by a pattern of red and gold umbrellas and flowers on a deep red background, reminiscent of both the song itself as well as kimono patterns. The sides, including the back, are adorned by pictures of the figure from different angles on rectangles in alternating colors (black, red and yellow with a checked pattern). Additional flower decorations connect the kimono with the box design making it seem lush and extravagant. The sides in particular also remind me a little of paper screens for some reason. I’m really impressed with the box design as it fits the figure to a T (with the huge front window it may even make a good display case once you remove the blister).

Ofc the blister is huge as well, but it does its job well. Mine came with a small crack but the figure inside was perfectly fine. :3

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
There are 3 parts to this figure: main figure, base and kiseru (pipe).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371499.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371500.jpeg
We also get an instruction sheet in both Japanese and English, which is definitely nice to have. Although it’s possible to figure out the assembly w/o its help.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
The base is a shiny black disc with red edges. It sure gives off the impression of lacquered wood, but I absolutely hate shiny bases like this one (fingerprints and scratches… they’re almost impossible to clean). Before doing anything else the figure gets attached to a single metal peg that goes in her geta’s heel. One of the ribbons swirling around the figure comes with small peg that needs to be inserted into the hole in the base.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371501.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371502.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371503.jpeg
The yellow and red ribbons too have to be connected via a small peg and that might be a bit frustrating. Sadly, the plastic is rather rigid making them snap back if they’re not connected properly (all the while you have to maintain a delicate balance while bending them since you don’t want to break them….)

The kiseru has a very nice color gradient on its shaft giving it a wooden appearance. Both the mouthpiece and bowl have a metallic/golden finish and look indeed quite delicate. I would have preferred a bit of smoke or the bowl being more hollowed out though.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371504.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371505.jpeg
A small peg on the kiseru needs to be inserted into a hole in Teto’s hand and compared to ITEM #331626 who’s constantly losing his pipe this is definitely a better solution.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371515.jpeg
Despite Teto glancing over her shoulder, limiting the intended display angles quite a bit the sheer opulence of this figure results in her not having a "bad angle". You’ll find something appealing no matter where you look which is quite a feat tbh.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
With her steady but distant sidewards glance it seems like Teto is welcoming in a patron while there’s also seems a faint hint of languid melancholy hidden in her red eyes.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371516.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371517.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371518.jpeg
I’d have preferred a little more sculpting or gloss on her mouth, as the protruding teeth(?) look a somewhat iffy from certain angles. Yet this is a minor gripe and doesn’t really perturb her beauty.

Teto’s hair is a dark shade of red with a lot of highlights and visible strands adding more depth to it. Her hairstyle is both complex and immaculate, not only does she wear her signature drill locked twintails but also a chignon (shimada) showing a bit of folded cloth at its base. The way the hair is pulled into either looks pretty neat, while the loose strands and fringe on the front take away a bit of the hairstyle’s strictness. Only the seam at the top of her head looks a bit too wide.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371519.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371520.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371521.jpeg

Teto is also wearing a real plethora of kanzashi as well as a comb in her hair, most of them being the simpler gold-plated kind. And they sure look gorgeous, but the flower kanzashi is definitely upstaging them with its vibrant colors. Unfortunately, there are small blotches of paint bleeding between the differently colored petals and the little pearls dangling down do look a little wonky up close as well.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Exposing quite a bit of her milky skin on the way her vibrant Kimono has already slid down Teto’s delicate shoulders. The colors of the Kimono and especially the red of the nagajuban create a beautiful contrast with her light skin. From her chest, the protruding collar bone to the nape of her neck and pronounced shoulder blades everything is sculpted and painted in immaculate detail making for a view that’s quite exciting. Her skin even has a soft finish that feels very pleasant to the touch.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371525.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371529.jpeg

The real highlight is of course the kimono. Colored in a vivid shade of green that turns into a yellow/orange at the sleeves and adorned with colors and squares in contrasting colors it sure has a very lavish look to it. Despite the multiple layers of fabric visible Teto’s silhouette remains both slender and elegant which her arched back further enhances. Nothing… there’s literally nothing I could complain about here, the paint is flawless, the creases in the fabric look heavy and realistic and considering the thickness of the fabric not even the distinct seams at the base of her sleeves look exaggerated.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371530.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371531.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371534.jpeg

Speaking of distinct, the nagajuban showing underneath the main kimono is particularly notable seeing how it complements the former. I also like its fine gold pattern.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371535.jpeg

The long flowing sleeves (in combination with the obi and ribbons) add an air of elegance and a sense of movement to the otherwise still (despite her taking a step) figure. But most of all they’re just plain gorgeous, continuing the overall pattern on a more notable color gradient. Even the just barely visible blue layer of fabric at the hems features varying shades of blue. Again, I’m just marveling at the sight, because there couldn’t possibly be anything worth complaining about. I especially love the hand hidden beneath the silk as it looks really cute for some reason.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371536.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371540.jpeg

Teto is holding the kiseru in her other hand in a very graceful manner resting the shaft on her index finger almost lazily. Fitting her slender stature her wrist and fingers are long and delicate with her nails being painted in a very soft pink.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371541.jpeg

The kimono is tied at the waist with a shimmery yellow almost golden obi embellished with an ornate but subtle gold pattern. Depending on the light and angle the pattern becomes almost invisible sometimes while gleaming in other instances. A violet diamond pattern can be found at the back serving as a little eyecatcher. Seeing how the fabric is quite thick the ribbon at the front looks quite heavy. The long ends fall down seemingly without end creasing near the kimono’s hem to envelop her alongside the smaller ribbons.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371542.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371543.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371548.jpeg

It looks as if the colorful thinner ribbons are tucked into the obi both at the front and back while loosely enveloping the bottom of the figure in an almost exaggerated motion.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371549.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371552.jpeg

The view of the kimono’s bottom is obstructed by all the panels of fabric surrounding it but it’s no less spectacular than the rest (making it almost a shame). At the front the hem almost burst open from the layers underneath.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371553.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371556.jpeg

Taking a step, it can’t be helped that the long geta teeth kick up the layers of transparent fabric beneath the kimono resulting in an impressive multicolored ripple.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371557.jpeg

A thin and pronounced pair of ankles can be seen underneath. Seeing how white the skin looks it almost seems as if Teto was wearing tabis. The geta look both elegant with their long teeth of black lacquered wood and a ‘little’ uncomfortable. They’re also the main culprit behind Teto’s legs looking very elongated.

Now onto some size comparisons…
Excluding the base Teto reaches a height of 26cm. Considering her stated character height of 159,5cm and the geta I’d say that her being listed as a 1/7 scale is quite accurate. Despite her being a real eyecatcher, she fits in with other kimono clad figures without drawing all the attention away from them. And since her outfit is full of contrasting colors already, you’re given free rein in combining her with others. While ITEM #330951, ITEM #331626 & ITEM #776142 are visibly smaller in size all of them look good next to Teto and with some clever placing…
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371560.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371561.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371562.jpeg

ITEM #501860 seems a bit bland next to Teto but seeing how Kogitsune is a 1/7 scale (although of a very small character) his proportions are closer to hers.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371563.jpeg

Now for the ones I wanted to display together with Teto right from the get-go…
ITEM #740168 & ITEM #464632 are close to being 1/6 figures and maybe it’s because both of them are kneeling but they sure look like a perfect match. With Teto smoking and Shuten Douji and Prinz Eugen drinking they make a nice trio of vicious beauties.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371564.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371565.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Did I complain? Strange, I can’t seem to remember anything of that sort…
GSC really outdid themselves with this figure. She’s a stunning, eye-catching beauty and they sure didn’t cut corners with her. That being said, and I know it’s barely visible, but I hate the base with a passion because it’s nigh impossible to keep clean. Still, this is a very minor gripe no one can expect me to focus on when marveling at Teto. I know nothing about her (apart from what I looked up for this review) and that won’t change, but that too is an insignificant detail. I sure don’t regret purchasing her and consider every single cent well-spent.

P.S. : the inside of the box View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371566.jpeg makes for a really nice background.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371567.jpeg

That's it for this review!
If you've got any thoughts on the figure feel free to share them in the comments.

GoldenRose3 years ago#78764320Thank you for making this review, it was really helpful! I've seen a lot of people who are "put off" by this figure and I was really confused as to why. I think this figure is beautiful and this review confirmed that for me (: As for the base, I think anything other than black would have taken away from all the colors in her kimono; so personally I am pleased with it. <3Glad I could be of help. :3
I wonder why as well, is it the vibrancy of the colors? Or maybe some people are just not into Kimono figures (I've heard of such people x3). Imo she's definitely a stunningly beautiful figure, easily a centerpiece.
About the base, one the one hand I think it really fits, but maybe something like cobblestones or a tamami mat would've been nice as well.

evenstar883 years ago#74484593I think this figure is absolutely beautiful! Thanks very much for the review, I really enjoyed reading it.
I didn't get this figure because:
1. Couldn't justify the money for her (and I had others to save for ;D)
2. Felt her eye colour could be more prominent, the shade comes across rather faded for me in comparison to her dress
3. I didn't like the multicoloured ruffles end of her kimono
Other than that, this figure is a really fantastic work.
Thank you! :3
Well, can’t get everything and for that kind of money liking her a lot is a must.
Personally, I don’t think she’s perfect either (particularly agree about the ruffles), but I got her in the end which says a lot about the parts I do like about her.

SebastianLover3 years ago#74459409Great review as always. You're so good at spotting all the little details. I also have this figure, but thanks to you, I can see even more little details to appreciate.XD
I never thought Teto would ever become a figure since she's not a Vocaloid, so I was so happy when she got announced. Plus, she's so damn beautiful! Her expression, her movement, and especially her kimono are so captivating. I think this is now my 2019 favorite. I'm so excited for the Chou Kabuki Miku although it's a longer wait now.>.> I hope the lesser appreciated Loids continue getting figures, especially Gakupo, the one Vocaloid who doesn't have a single scale.
Thank you! o(^▽^)o
That's one of the reasons why I love talking about figures so much. You get a lot of different opinions and new input making you notice details you previously didn't.
A real pity she didn't make it into the poll for figure of the year, she'd have been a worthy contender for the crown. :3 I didn't order the Miku because she doesn't really appeal to me, but I bet they'll make a lovely combo.
It's always sad when characters you like don't get much/any attention, so I sure hope the upcoming wonfes will fill a few of those voids. Gakupo's design looks very tempting btw, I sure hope they'll get around to making a figure one of these days.^^

victorviper3 years ago#74441615Such an impressive figure.
I'm a little surprised that GSC went so all-out on the first non-GK scale figure of Teto. Maybe if there is enough interest in this figure, we will eventually get some figures of Teto in her "everyday" clothes.
Nice review as always.
Thank you! (*´ω`*)
She sure is, I catch myself looking at her a lot these days, my gaze is drawn to her as if she were magnetic.
For all her fans I sure hope she sold well and that she'll get some more attention now.

View spoilerHide spoilerCloudberry3 years ago#74441599Holy frick, she's drop dead gorgeous (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) I think my heart got stolen...
It's awesome how she went from a short-lived meme:
https://i.imgflip.com/2d3vl9.gif
...To a stunning and attention-stealing maiden. Teto gives off a really mature and elegant feel, especially the way she is holding the kiseru. You are definitely right, she has no bad angles and the way she looks at you, you can't help it but lock eyes with her and be charmed by her beauty (〃'▽'〃)
I didn't think a dominant neon-ish green kimono would look good buuut the pattern on her kimono combined with the colorful ribbons, the awesomely multilayered bouquet of rainbow and frills, her hair accessories, and her facial expression is just... Marvellous. I'm totally at an awe.
Thanks for the review! Really awesome that you threw up a lot of kimono wear terminology and styles I never heard of but I've been curious about (^v^)
Btw: View spoilerHide spoilerthis is totally my favorite picture you've took:
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/01/22/2371516.jpeg Also, that collarbone tho ♥

Hahaha, they sure went above and beyond turning her into such an alluring beauty, I kind of feel a little guilty for not being able to become a fan of the music and her character. (╥_╥)
That meme is so adorable (been staring at it for a few minutes already).
She’s great the way she is even with very few design choices not being to my liking I wouldn’t want her to be any different.
Thank you! :3 Well, I knew some beforehand because this is not the first kimono figure I’m reviewing and I have an almost obsessive dislike for not knowing the right terms (sometimes I spend hours googling and crosstranslating stuff for my reviews), maybe because I always feel somewhat inferior being a non-native speaker.
I’m glad you like! :3 I also think her skin looks very soft (which is actually true), even touching her is a real pleasure.

Being a Loid Nerd, I am a sucker for non-Crypton characters receiving figures. *cries at Aoki Lapis figure* (ITEM #94927) An Utau getting a scale is amazing! Because obviously not everyone has the license for their Utaus compared to big companies that own Vocaloids. Keep in mind Utau is an shareware program. I would kill for an Namine Ritsu figure. (ENTRY #123327)

Chances may be low or high because he is pretty popular. Yes, I intentionally said he!

I think it's too early to say as she is still available in quite few shops, but I wouldn't be surprised (then again my judgement is pretty hit or miss so you defintiely shouldn't rely on it).
His design sure is awesome and Wonfes is coming up, maybe with some luck... :3

Glad you also like but just how annoying is putting the riboons together?

It was confusing for a moment, and then it made sense after looking at some pictures, haha.

But hey, it ended up being a masterpiece!
