Welp I didn't think I was going to make something so passive aggresive anytime soon but here we are
Ok so the hatred for the newer nendoroids that have come out seems to be pretty big, and at first I didn't quite agree. Sure I didn't want to defend goodsmile or anything but I thought the nendos looked mostly fine, maybe its because I'm not the pickiest when it comes to things like coloring (I mean shit, my opinions could be considered unpopular, for example I personally like the PUP bases, the only reason I dont buy those figures is because of how small they are)
Well that ended today at exactly 7:20 am. I'm scrolling through insta before leaving to school and suddendly see official pictures of the Yor nendo (ITEM #1531631), a nendo I was looking forward to because I ADORE Yor, and... goodness what can I even say.
It looks so fucking boring. I genuinely don't understand what the hell went wrong here?? The expressions/face plates are so blank, her dress looks overly plain and with no flavor, the colors are weirdly muted, I'm just genuinely so dissapointed. Loid's nendo looked alright, Anya's had some boring faceplates but those could be slightly painted over with some blush and so on... and then theres Yor. The most boring looking nendoroid I've ever seen.
And look I know nendos are expensive, hell currently my most expensive figure IS a Miku nendoroid (ITEM #1210417) but you're telling me they're charging over 40 bucks for this???? Not including shipping, which has been getting more expensive drastically, and considering that she's probably gonna be about 70 bucks in aftermarket????? Jesus this is just a new low for nendos and I thought the Swacchao line was the lowest they could go. I am terrified of what theyre gonna do to my boy Zhongli (ITEM #1552637) now... especially considering that Venti (ITEM #1213389) also had pretty boring face plates... arguibly even more boring than yor's.
From everyone else's comments on yor's nendo I'm guessing I'm not alone in this, it's just sad that goodsmile has gotten so lazy :( Like the nendo line used to be one of my favorite figure lines but if this is how the future of nendo's looks then I genuinely see no reason in buying them.

And I like it, it's not amazing, but it's not bad, it's just ok, and that's ok, lol. At the end of the day, they're optional toys/collectibles. Getting this worked up over something so small seems overboard.
Also, this is the first I hear about any hatred towards nendos, what's the context?
yeah i was kinda aggressive with this one, i was just really sad how they butchered my girl :(
also yeah the nendo hate started when GSC started putting more effort into PUPs instead of nendos, and with the Swacchao line and PUP L and XL, safe to say a lot of people were pissed with GSC in general for their weird product choices lol

I was a huge nendoroid collector when I first started this hobby because I was so impressed by how much quality you got for the price. Now, it seems that they do the absolute bare minimum to get the highest profit margin.
Sucks that they still cost the same but literally have half as many faces/accessories.
Also, since I saw the comment, a quick little bit: ITEM #689123 is nendo #1000. Check the date for the WF Winter 2019 date. So from late 2018 / early 2019 to now (roughly 4 years), we have averaged 250 nendos per year. By the estimation of releases, in the next 3-4 months we will know what nendo #2000 will be or have some vote...right in time for sales during WF Winter 2023 just like nendo #1000 four years earlier.
i really hope that the spy x family nendo series is just an exceptionally bad outlier-- but still an outlier. though, unfortunately, it seems that nendoroids are becoming less customizable these days, with especially "good" ones slowly becoming the exception and not the rule. for the spy x family set, i think the lack of hair sculpt (though admittedly better on anya) and overall boringness of the yor and anya nendos is a direct result of the speed at which they were produced. loid does look better, but he still seems kinda plain to me.
i hope that in the future we will see quality that matches the price, but i feel like prices continue rising and quality doesn't seem to be following that trend :((

So I think they had plenty of time...
However poor Marin was announced 4 months ago and we got nothing - ITEM #1464633
