☆What is a Ball-Jointed Doll?☆
A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints. In contemporary usage when referring to modern dolls, and particularly when using the acronyms BJD or ABJD, it usually refers to modern Asian ball-jointed dolls. These are cast in polyurethane synthetic resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts strung together with a thick elastic.
The modern BJD market began with Volks line of Super Dollfie in 1999.

☆Common Terms☆
General
BJD - Ball-Jointed Doll
ABJD- Asian Ball-Jointed Doll (same as above)
Sizing
SD - Super Dollfie, 1/3rd size dolls with a more mature adult/teenager body type. Around 60cm.
MSD - Mini Super Dollfie, 1/4th sized dolls with a youthful body type. Around 40cm.
There are "mature"/"slim" types that are meant to represent full sized adult dolls.
Yo-SD - Also called Tinies. Very child-like dolls under 30cm.
Volks
All above sizing terms were taken from Volks doll lines.
SD17 - Super Dollfie 17, largest and most mature in looks of the Volks line. 65cm
SD16 - Super Dollfie 16, meant to look like teens at about 16 years of age. 65cm
SD13 - Super Dollfie 13, meant to look like teens at about 13 years of age. Boys are 60cm, girls are 57cm
SD - Super Dollfie, a softer, younger body type by Volks. 60cm
MSD - Mini Super Dollfie, a 43cm line by Volks.
YoSD - Yo Super Dollfie, "Yo" refers to the Japanese word for infant. 26.5cm
DD - Dollfie Dream,
DDy - Dollfie Dream Dynamite,
DDS - Dollfie Dream Sister,
MDD - Mini Dollfie Dream,
