ChinchillaMoose • 1 year ago • #108508825SNIP Thanks so much for all the details, recommendations and helpful tips. I saw you and other users talk about LEDs so I can refer to that but I'll let you know if I encounter any problems or have additional questions. Thanks again!

I've been making multiple trips to my local IKEA and was finally able to build the bookcases yesterday. Though one of the hardware on top will not line up correctly even though all the bookcases are in the bottom brackets. TAT You have a great collection and thank you so much for your photo! It was one of the few with a door on the corner piece which helped me visualize my future set up. How did you manage to do that and how wide can the corner door swing open?
Thanks! The door on the corner bookcase is probably the question i've been asked the most about, lol.
To put the corner shelf I just followed the last post from this forum. Basically you just get some PVC L shaped corner molding and place it on the sides of the corner bookcase.
I used some double stick tape since I was hesitant to nail them, but I actually recommend adding atleast some small nails at the bottom, middle, and top to prevent the molding from moving when aligning the bookcases. You can actually see in my picture that the middle of the right molding has already shifted, lol.
Btw, this modification doesn't use Ikea's bottom corner bracket hardware that you've probably have seen. I did end up reusing the tie down brackets on top that came with the Ikea kit to help add some rigidity to the all the shelves. Though I'm sure getting a simple bracket like this one will work just as fine (the actual spacing between holes needed may be diffrent).
All the doors can be fully opened. To get all the bookcase to align perfectly you kinda have to play around with them and move them a bit forwards and backwards until they look good. In the end they might not be 100% lined up but it won't really be noticable.
Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. As far as I know that I'm probably one of the only person who's has this bookshelf configuration documented. I spent a good amount of time searching if anyone else had done it prior to doing it myself and only found that single post in that forum.

Thanks! The lights are generic 5 meter long 3528 LED strips (one strip for each cabinet), with the two half bookcases having dimmers to lower the brightness and match the large bookcases. For the most part they're attached simply with their double stick backs and white electical tape. Amazing collection, congrats! May i ask what kind of lighting did you use? Cause it looks amazing!
